16 pupils will this year head to Devizes in Wiltshire to compete in the ultimate canoeing challenge; the Devizes to Kelly CollegeWestminster International Canoe Marathon.

This is an annual event in the Kelly calendar and this year, over the Easter Weekend, 8 teams will pit their skill, physical and mental stamina and determination against one of the toughest endurance events in the world – the 125 mile race known as the ‘Canoeist’s Everest’.

This year’s teams have been training since September 2012, with many never having paddled before. A number of Kelly College teachers and staff have been training the crews during the long winter months. This has often meant braving both the exceptionally harsh winter and the 5:00am starts.

Despite juggling this demanding training programme and their busy school lives, pupils’ enthusiasm for the event has shown no sign of waning, with many of the teams now eager to depart.

The teams will complete the course over four days and, as always, they will be supported by many staff and parents who will help to keep their spirits up and cater for their needs along the way.

Everyone at Kelly College wishes team members Alex Boswell, Guy Coulton, Amy Anstee, Olivia Hampden-Smith, Ben Ashley, Will Stewart, Oli Hancox, Clem Boyle, Fleur Sylvester, Katy Collingwood, Henry Chamberlain, Matt Earp, Finn Ramirez, Leon Cording, Laura Nicholas and Louisa Butcher the best of luck on their expedition.
