Kent College is delighted to announce its best ever GCSE year with a record breaking 58% at A* – A with 26% of grades an A*. This is seen in a year when the number of top grades nationally has decreased. These well-deserved results show that the ambition and confidence of all girls and staff at Kent College continues to grow.

Kent College GCSE resultsThis is the first set of results since the school's move to the more rigorous IGCSE at English and, with over 25% gaining an A*, the move seems justified. In Biology and Latin 100% of all pupils achieved A* & A grades. In other areas of the curriculum outstanding achievement was seen in subjects such as Business Communications, Geography, Drama, German, Physics, Spanish and PE.

Guinevere Poncia achieved 8A* and 2As and will remain at KC for the Sixth Form. She commented:

“I would never have got these results without KC and my teachers. They have been the biggest support and their study tips and revision exercise were invaluable.

Also choosing KC for A levels, Catharine Weston gaining 10.5 A*s, commented:

“Staying on at the Sixth Form and doing the subjects I am passionate about is going to be fantastic, I really can't wait, I just feel so overwhelmed!”

Kent College Group of GCSE students 2012Lucy Barwell who achieved 6A* & 3.5As will be studying Biology, Chemistry, Psychology & Geography next year in order to gain a university place to read Medicine. She said:

“I am very happy and delighted to get A* grades in all three Sciences which means I will be able to achieve my goal of studying Medicine at university. I can't wait to get into the Sixth Form and specialise in my subjects. My teachers helped so much and they have been truly inspirational.”

Dominique Von Oppell who achieved 5A*, 6As & 1/2B and will also stay on in the Sixth Form commented:

“I'm feeling amazing, I didn't expect such good results. I'm blown away by my English result especially as it has been the first year we studied the IGCSE, nobody knew what sort of grades we would get, but we have all done so well. The teaching here is not ordinary, it's outstanding and this has shown in the results we have all got.”

Stephanie Von Oppell who achieved 3A*, 6As and 2.5Bs who will join her sister in the Sixth Form commented:

"I can't believe I got these results, I'm absolutely thrilled. My results in English, drama and PE are amazing and it has now confirmed what I want to do in the Sixth Form. The teachers went above and beyond and really helped to expand our knowledge by introducing us to things that weren't on the syllabus. Having excellent facilities like the theatre for drama has really helped us to reach our full potential."

Georgia Lucey who achieved 1A*, 7.5As & 1B and who will be staying on in the Sixth Form to study towards a degree in Sports Science commented:

“Getting these results this morning confirms that I have achieved my goals, this year group has been really supportive of each other and the teaching has been so good. I'm so pleased to stay on in the Sixth Form and to be with my friends.”

Catherine Newman who achieved 7A* and 3As and who will be staying on at the Sixth Form commented:

“I'm delighted that the hard work has paid off and I'm especially pleased with my A in Maths as I didn't find this subject easy. I'm looking forward to all the new challenges waiting for me in the Sixth Form. KC took all the stress out of the exam process and allowed us to have fun by being involved in school productions and extra-curricular activities. The fact that we have been so happy throughout the exam process has enabled us to gain really good results.”

Headmistress Sally-Anne Huang commented:

‘These high academic standards are achieved by concentrating on the needs of the girls as individuals. The headline percentages are impressive in their own right, but when you consider that our value added scores show that girls at KC gain results of around one grade higher in each subject than they would have done elsewhere, it's even more remarkable.
Some individuals have really excelled, gaining around 2.5 grades per subject. What could have been a C is an A or an A* at KC.

For me personally, this is also a special day as this particular group of girls were my first year 7 as Head and it's a real delight to see them reaching this stage of their education with such success.'
