A large number of Kent College students have had an incredible year of sporting achievements.
Year 11 pupil Hugh Scott was selected as one of just 4 boys in Kent to represent the London and East squad in the ECB U17 England Development Programme Super-4s Competition. Taking place over five days at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University, off-spin bowler Hugh was one of just 46 boys selected nationally. The tournament is a selection platform for the ECB Under 19 Young Lions squad which tours each Winter, and it was a great achievement for Hugh to be included, as he only turned 16 the week beforehand, making him the youngest participant.
Cross Country runner Teigan Sullivan in Year 9, represented the Kent U15 Girls team coming 11th out of 159 entries in the Southern Inter-counties competition. She lead the Kent contingent home in a tough competition with a strong field of entrants from 13 counties.
In showjumping, the Kent College team won the 1m team showjumping at the NSEA Plate Championships in Keysoe. Year 11 student, Harry Foulds-Brant also went on to win the 1.10m individual competition.
Lower 6th student Adam Lee-Browne has been invited to join the England U18 National hockey squad. He joins a long line of KC players who have been selected for England, including most recently Ailsa Naylor (also Lower 6th) who played for the England U16s last year. Adam started his hockey career in North Wales, playing at school and club and quickly progressing to the U14 North Wales team. When he moved to Canterbury in 2016, Adam joined Canterbury Hockey Club and started working his way through the England Hockey pathway from Junior Development, to playing for the Kent county team, to Performance Centre at Tonbridge. In the summer of 2018 he played at the Futures Cup. In Canterbury, Adam has benefited greatly from the coaching of Australian International Craig Boyne, both at Kent College and at the hockey club where Adam has been playing for the Mens’ 1sts team this season.
Craig commented: “I’ve been fortunate to have coached Adam at Kent College, Canterbury HC and the Tonbridge Performance Centre. His success in selection to the NAGS has been down to his continued dedication, and intense focus on bettering himself as a player at every session he attends. This is a great testament and reward to his hard work and endeavour, and I wish him the best of luck for the upcoming challenge!”
With the school hockey season approaching, the future looks bright for boys’ hockey at KC, with local talent, including Adam, and Oliver Weston (Lower 6th – Performance Centre) as well as international representation from some talented German boarding students.
