King Edward’pics Witley has appointed Sharon Condy as the new Housemistress of Elizabeth house, one of the School’s senior girls boarding houses (for girls aged 13-19) effective from September 2017.

Miss Condy is the former Assistant Housemistress of Elizabeth house and combines this role with her responsibilities as a teacher of Religious Studies, Philosophy and Theory of Knowledge. She joined the School in September 2016, having previously worked at Prior’s Field School in Guildford.

Prior to taking up teaching, Miss Condy worked in two boarding schools as a Boarding Mistress – in Auckland, New Zealand and Belfast. She obtained her degree in Theology from Queen’s University, Belfast and then went on to study for a Diploma in Academic Studies and Pastoral Care from the same university. She secured her PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) from Durham University and then studied part-time to gain a Masters in Education.

As Housemistress, Miss Condy will assume responsibility for 35 girls, which represents a mixture of boarding and day pupils.  Commenting on her new role, Miss Condy said, “As a teacher it is a real joy to be part of a pupil’s learning experience. From an early point in my career I discovered that my true passion lies in the delivery of academic achievement combined with the provision of excellent pastoral care. Ensuring the safety, as well as physical and emotional welfare of my charges – especially those who have left their families to take up the wonderful opportunities open to them at an independent boarding school – is a huge privilege and I derive immense satisfaction from being part of the girls’ lives as they mature into strong, capable young women.”

Miss Condy will be based on site and will be supported by a new Assistant Housemistress, Mrs Caroline Shouksmith (Head of Art and Photography).
