Pupils at King Edward’s Witley, are celebrating success in their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma exams published 6th July 2015.
For the second year running an impressive 75% of subjects taken in the exam – considered to be the global “gold standard” for school leavers – were graded at the equivalent to A-level A*-B grades.
Carolin Hunkemoeller scored a world-class 43 points (out of 45) – the average score for IB students is 30 points out of 45, with five candidates scoring in the 40s. Overall, pupils from King Edward’s Witley achieved an average of 33.4, well above the worldwide average and the best result since 2009.
Commenting on her fantastic result, Carolin says “It’s been a challenging but enjoyable two years. The hard work has really paid off and I’m delighted with my results.”
A number of this year’s leavers are choosing to pursue their higher education abroad, travelling as far afield as Canada, the USA and Switzerland.
A key advantage of the IB is that, with results published on 6th July, the successful candidates can now relax during the summer, safe in the knowledge that they have achieved entry to their chosen university. This is in sharp contrast to their A-level counterparts who have to wait until mid-August to ascertain their fate.

They were a super year group who contributed a great deal to school life in all sorts of ways, which the IB and their chosen universities have recognized. I am delighted we can share in their achievements now and wish them every success as they head towards some very bright futures indeed.”
King Edward’s Witley, one of Surrey’s leading independent co-educational day and boarding schools, celebrated 10 years of running the IB in September 2014. The IB was first introduced in a British school in 1971. The School announced last year that it will once again be offering A-levels alongside the IB from September 2015 following government reforms to A-level.
