King's College Taunton Cricket SuccessKing’s cricket continues to lead the way in the South West and at a national level. The 1st XI have been top of the Wisden School “successful season” stats for the last six years and have done very well in the national schools T20 cup year in year out. They have lost a mere five school matches in those six years and continue to achieve some very impressive results. The team have strengthened their fixture list and are now playing more university, county and academy sides alongside their traditional 1st XI school matches.

Sam Underdown (Captain) is playing for England U17s. Liam Redrup and Calvin Harrison both play for the Somerset Academy, along with Sam. James Turpin plays for the Gloucestershire CCC Academy and there are numerous players in the Somerset EPP set-up and in other county programmes across the country.

The school is also increasingly successful at attracting talented cricketers from abroad.. Eddie Byrom plays for the Zimbabwe U19 squad. And Bradley Lynch, joined the school from South Africa as a first-rate wicket-keeper/batsman.

King’s junior sides continue to dominate the South West cricket circuit. This year the U15 team have reached the last eight of the National Schools Taverners Cup, having beaten Millfield last year to qualify for the competition.

Thirty pupils in the school are currently playing county cricket, but there is a further army of keen players  who simply love the game and enjoy everything that King’s offers in terms of cricket provision. Pupils receive three training sessions and a minimum of one match per week, with access to excellent training facilities, well-qualified coaches and fantastic pitches.

King’s also has a very keen group of girl cricketers and the school now fields both a 1st XI and an U15 side.

At the start of next month King’s welcomes the PCA England Masters for the much-anticipated T20 match against the 1st XI. Tickets are still available for what is set to be a fabulous day of cricket in superb surroundings.

The summer holiday will see the school taken over by the annual King’s Cricket Festival. Teams from counties throughout the UK will join sides from Barbados and South Africa for a six-week feast of cricket at different age groups.
