kings college taunton 2012Sixth former Ted Vickery of King's College in Taunton has won the most highly prestigious award in the country that can be won by a sixth form pupil in Design Technology.

Every year at the Arkwright Engineering Scholarships awards ceremony held at the Savoy Hotel in London, the exceptional work of one of the first year scholars is recognised by The Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation.

The Gold Medal for Engineering Excellence is presented to one of the scholars, whose project, which is exhibited at the ceremony, demonstrates an outstanding standard of craftsmanship.

This year the award went to Ted for his project, a small-scale wind tunnel to demonstrate the physical principles behind aerodynamics. He is now the second King's College pupil to receive this award since 2006.

Head of Design Technology at King's, Jason Grindle, said "I'm absolutely delighted for Ted that the quality of his work has been recognised nationally. It sets a magnificent example for our younger Design Technology pupils to aspire to, and all our congratulations go to Ted."
