King's College Taunton Run Shoot CompetitionKing’s is delighted to be holding the inaugural Run/Shoot competition on Tuesday 23 June. Introduced by British Shooting, in partnership with Pentathlon GB and England Athletics, the event mirrors the final discipline in the Modern Pentathlon and will enable participants to learn and develop their air/laser pistol target shooting with the added twist of running.

After a recent visit from former GB modern pentathlete Lydia Rosling, our pupils are fired up and ready to go. Lydia brought along a mobile shooting range and took our pupils through their paces ahead of the competition.  During the two hour session, they were taught how to stand correctly, how to load and fire the pistol and were given ample opportunity to put this new skill into practice under the experienced and watchful eye of Lydia.

Commenting on the modern pentathlon event, Lydia said:

“It is absolutely fantastic that King’s College have welcomed the sport with such open arms. Already they can see the wide range of benefits that the sport can bring by attracting such a diverse group of people.

Without exception every student grasped the challenge with both hands and this was clearly demonstrated by the excellent scoring on their targets in practice – so bring on the competition!

I am very excited that we will be starting the very first community club in Somerset at the school next term.”

Director of Sport, Nick Gresswell added:

“This is an exciting prospect for our pupils and for the school. We have the potential  to establish a multi-sport / Modern Pentathlon Club in 2016 , coinciding with the Olympic year.

Our pupils cannot wait for the opportunity to try out this new event.”

Head of Athletics, Richard Llewelyn-Eaton will take on the task of coaching the pupils for the running aspect of the event.
