The Governing Body of Lancing College is delighted to announce that Mrs Heather Beeby has been appointed Head of Lancing College Preparatory School at Worthing.

Heather Beeby will take up her post on 1 September 2014, and will bring a wealth of experience to the school at the outset of an exciting new chapter in its history. Heather is currently Director of Communication at Hurstpierpoint College where, last term, she organised highly acclaimed, inaugural TEDx events for sixth formers from a range of schools, including Bedales and Roedean. Prior to this, Heather was Head of Hurstpierpoint College Prep School. She firmly believes in the power of big ideas to bring about positive change; and she has planned and run a variety of conferences and events for other school leaders.

Heather has also been Deputy Head of Brighton College Preparatory School, and Head of St Christopher’s School, Hove. She has been an independent schools’ inspector for twelve years and is a member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools, having served recently as an Area Training Board Representative.

Heather is a graduate of London University with a Master’s degree in Science Education from the Institute of Education, London. She started her teaching career in the Inner London Education Authority working in two primary schools before moving into the independent sector, spending nine years at Thomas’s, Battersea, where she became Head of Science and Senior Mistress. This experience laid the foundations for her future career as a school leader.

Outside education Heather enjoys theatre as an audience member, director, choreographer of musicals, and occasional actor. She is also a committee member of a thriving community arts festival. Heather is married to Nicholas, a Housemaster and Director of Drama at Hurstpierpoint College, and they have two daughters.

Heather Beeby said “I am thrilled to be joining the Lancing College Family and to have the opportunity to lead its newest member. I look forward to meeting the pupils, staff and parents next term in preparation for my start in September.”

Dr Harry Brünjes, Chairman of the Lancing College Governing Body, said “The recruitment process for this appointment has been rigorous and we were delighted to have attracted such a varied and talented field of applicants of whom Heather Beeby was by far the outstanding candidate. We believe that Heather will bring to Lancing Prep at Worthing invaluable experience, energy, vibrancy, together with a deep commitment to the Christian ethos of the Lancing College Schools.”

Lancing Prep Worthing

The former Broadwater Manor School, a co-educational school for children aged 2 – 13, became Lancing Prep Worthing, this January. It received praise from the Independent Schools Inspectorate earlier this year, which stated that results in the National Curriculum tests for age 11, are above the national average, particularly in English and in reading.

The report also mentioned that the teaching at the school sets learning in context and provides challenging, exciting activities that motivate children to develop their thinking, and that the overall quality and standard of the early years provision are outstanding.
