Lancing College welcomes new Provost, Rt Reverend, Jonathan Meyrick, Bishop of Lynn

Bishop Jonathan head and shouldersLancing College is delighted to announce the appointment of the Rt Reverend Jonathan Meyrick as its new Provost. Educated at Lancing, Bishop Jonathan is currently Bishop of Lynn and will take up his new position in addition to his current responsibilities in the Diocese of Norwich.

Bishop Jonathan will also act as Provost for Hurstpierpoint and Ardingly, the other two independent Woodard Schools within Sussex and also the two Lancing Preparatory Schools in Hove and Worthing. In his new role Bishop Jonathan will have oversight of and care for the Chaplains of the three Senior Schools. He will be officially installed as Provost in a service at Lancing Chapel in January 2017.

Bishop Jonathan attended Lancing College between 1965 and 1970. He was ordained in the Diocese of Oxford in 1976 following training at Salisbury and Wells Theological College and an undergraduate degree in Theology at St John’s College, Oxford.   In 2011, Bishop Jonathan was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Lynn by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey. He previously held two Cathedral jobs, firstly in Rochester where he was Canon Pastor and Acting Dean for two years; and secondly in Exeter where he became Dean in 2005.

Welcoming the appointment, Dr Harry Brünjes, Chairman of the Lancing College Governing Body, said “It is a real pleasure to welcome back a former pupil (OL) as our new Provost.  We aim to provide an outstanding, well-rounded education, where our pupils leave the College with the best academic results, independent and with strong values. All of us at Lancing take the Christian foundation of our community very seriously and Bishop Jonathan will play a key role in our continuing development.”
