Cheltenham_College_religious_studiesPupils from schools including Kings School Gloucester, Oxford High and Malvern St James heard from two eminent speakers. Dr Stephen Law, editor of the Royal Institute of Philosophy journal THINK and senior lecturer in philosophy at Heythrop College, University of London, led a session entitled ‘Belief in an evil god and the reverse problem of good’.

The second session ‘the attributes of God in the face of evil’ was given by Professor Keith Ward. Professor Ward was the Gresham Professor of Divinity between 2004 and 2008 and has published numerous books on subjects such as Faith and Reason and the Diversity of Religions.

Students from each school were then invited to attend a master class with both speakers followed by a lively open debate on the ‘Existence of God and the conflict of science and religion’.

Jessica Roberts, Head of Religious Studies at The Cheltenham Ladies’ College, says “The A level and AS students are nearing the end of their studies and this conference combines practical help for their forthcoming exams together with an opportunity to hear two world-leading philosophers debating at the very highest levels”.
