Leighton Park School Global Citizen DayOn 4th November Year 9 pupils at Leighton Park School in Reading experienced their first ever Global Citizens Day. During the day the pupils had the opportunity to experience aspects of different cultures with the aim of making them more aware of the wonderful diversity we have on our planet.

John Dunston, Head, said ‘Leighton Park School is proud to have students from some 25 different countries, offering our pupils a real life insight into different cultures. I am delighted that pupils are being encouraged to think about the wider world, as well as considering what their own cultural and linguistic heritage means to them’.

During the packed day, students were introduced to new languages such as Tamil and Croatian and taught about life as a language student. Alongside these lessons there were opportunities to try Bhangra dancing (led by teacher Summreen Shiekh), African Drumming (run by Rhythmzone) and International Cooking (run by Leighton Park’s own international pupils).

Sarah Ledger, Modern Languages teacher, added ‘The international cooking was a task that was led by our very own international students. They brought with them recipes from their home countries and shared them enthusiastically with their fellow students. It is great for our pupils to teach each other about the different food from around the world.’
