Leighton Park School in Reading welcomed the BBC One's The Politics Show to its grounds on 3 December whilst the school was holding a seminar in memory of Michael Foot, MP, who had attended the school between 1927 and 1931.

Leighton Park Head John Dunston, MP Denis MacShane and Sir George YoungLeighton Park was extremely fortunate to have four MPs attending: Sir George Young, Leader of the House of Commons; Tony Baldry, MP for Banbury; Denis MacShane, MP for Rotherham; and Rob Wilson, MP for Reading East taking part in the seminar and giving valuable insight into the life of MP Michael Foot.

Students from Leighton Park School, The Abbey School, Reading Bluecoat School, Sidcot School and Wellington College all took part in the seminar.

John Dunston, Head Leighton Park, said: 'It is remarkable to have had the young man Michael Foot attending Leighton Park School in his formative years. The Quaker values he learnt here helped to shape his views and he has been remembered for his high principles, loyalty, dignity and commitment to social justice and nuclear disarmament across the country. All who met him felt he was an exceptionally decent man who never took the expected route in creating change; we can all learn from him.'

Leighton Park School gives students plenty of opportunities to take part in political activities. There is an unusual annual public speaking competition and a Politics Society whose members have attended the National Politics Conference and taken part in the European Youth Parliament Speech Competition.
