Leighton_Park_Rags_to_RunwayAll the glamour of the catwalk came to Leighton Park, as for the second year running, the school was delighted to host the “Rags to Runway restyled” fashion show, which this year was in aid of the Oxfam Philippines Project.

Students, staff and parents of the school worked collaboratively with the Oxfam shop in Caversham, to sew, paint and “bling” clothes donated to Oxfam, transforming them into a fabulous set of eclectic and stylish outfits, which were then modelled by Leighton Park students on the night.  Also taking part for the first time was Valley Road Primary school from Henley, whose Year 6 students took to the catwalk to show off their own fashion triumphs, transforming donated t-shirts into fashion statements.

Supported by the Leighton Park student band “Milestones Jazz Band “, the evening was an extravaganza of fashion and dance. The students showed off a range of reworked clothing, from daywear to urban fashion, to evening glamour, most of which were available to buy on the night. The finale saw Leighton Park’s senior students take to the floor to dance the Argentine Tango, with the girls modelling a stunning collection of restyled corsets made from damaged tablecloths and old fabric.

The event was both filmed and photographed, in the hope of raising additional funds for Oxfam. All the monies raised will go directly to the Oxfam Philippines Project, a charity selected by the school’s Oxfam Youth Action Group.
