Onyx Brass, the internationally acclaimed brass ensemble, gave a bravura Lunchtime Live recital at The Leys.Leys Cambridge brass band

Torbjorn Hulmark (trumpet), Alan Thomas (trumpet), Andrew Sutton (horn), Amos Miller (trombone) and Dave Gordon Shute (tuba), play serious yet approachable music for brass.

They often commission new music and are very active and experienced in music education. As individuals, members of the group hold permanent, principal positions in major orchestras.

They treated their audience in the Recital Hall to the opening of Monteverdi’s Vespers and Renaissance Dances by the less familiar Holborne, a composer to the Court of Queen Elizabeth I.

These were followed by Jackson’s Anything But, Variations on America by Ives, arranged by Howey, and Two Dance Episodes from Rodeo by Copland.
