The Leys School A Level Results
Natasha Mulley

With 93 pupils taking the exams this year, The Leys achieved a 99.3 per cent pass rate, with 91 per cent gaining grades A*-C.

Headmaster, Martin Priestley, said:

“I warmly congratulate our pupils and their teachers on another fine set of A Level results.  Last year (2013), our brightest pupils performed particularly well, securing the highest percentage of A* grades the school has ever achieved.  However, this year’s cohort surpassed that previous record performance: we had a higher percentage of A*s than ever before, and half of all entries received A Grades or better.  Nearly four in ten of our Upper Sixth gained at least three A Grades; almost half the year-group achieved or exceeded AAB.

My congratulations, therefore, to the leavers of 2014: they worked very hard and thoroughly deserved their success.  My thanks also to all my colleagues who supported them with such dedication throughout their Sixth Form studies.”

Top performers included Oliver Cheng, with 4A*s and an A grade, Seunglee Lee (3 A*s and an A), Giovanni Oakes (3 A*s and an A), Robyn Purcell and Niles Beadman (each of whom secured three straight A*s) and Garrick Yip (3A*s and an A).  Seunglee will now go on to read Mathematics at Pembroke College, Oxford.  Oliver, who only joined The Leys in the Sixth Form and who enjoyed a rich extra-curricular life at the School, including singing in the Choir, will now read Chemical Engineering at Robinson College, Cambridge.

Oliver was quick to pay tribute to the contribution the school made to his ultimate success:

“I received a massive amount of help from my teachers and this really helped me to build my self-confidence. With many welcoming friends and staff, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at The Leys, both in and outside the classroom. I have been amazed at the huge progress I have made during the past two years, and I want to say a big thank you to all my teachers, my Tutor and Housemaster, because without them I wouldn’t have done what I have. I am now equipped with a wide range of skills and ready for university.  Thank you again!”

Robyn said of her results:

I’m absolutely delighted with my results. I worked really hard, but I was also very well supported by my parents and of course by The Leys. My teachers helped me immensely and provided the support I needed. I owe The Leys so much.

I am really looking forward to going to Durham in the autumn to read history.”
