Llandovery College Sumdog Stars!

Pupils at Llandovery Prep have proved that Mathematical masterminds can still have fun by scoring top marks in a Llandovery Collegecool new interactive competition.

Sumdog is an online, interactive Mental Maths game in which players pit their wits against players from all over the world.

Sumdog adapts to pupils’ skill levels and covers more than 120 different numeracy skills.

It attracts 700,000 youngsters a month and this number is growing.

At Llandovery Prep, pupils aged from four to 11 have been busy entering a series of Sumdog regional and national competitions and have impressed their teachers and parents with the results.

The school came first in the whole of Wales in the national Sumdog competition in December; seventh in the UK and third and sixth respectively in the Carmarthenshire County competitions in November and January.

Year 5 pupil, Steffan Douch, was first in the two latest Carmarthenshire competitions and eighth in the national round which attracted entries from more than 8,000 pupils!

Among the other top scorers at Llandovery were Jack Coldrick, Zachary Schofield, Katie Fear, Jacob Goodall, Ben Holden, Toby Mawer, Eve Cully, Harry Thomas, Alaw Price, Hugo Thompson and Chi Wing Chung.

Llandovery Prep headteacher Guy Ayling said “Sumdog is a great interactive way to get pupils into Maths. It is fun, free and the children love it, teachers love it and parents love it.”
