A pupil at Llandovery College has been selected to represent Wales in a continental karate championship next month.

Mina Cook will compete in the 2018 European Karate Federation’s Junior, Cadet and U21s Karate Championship in Sochi, Russia.

Mina trains three times a week at Carmarthenshire Karate and also with the Welsh squad in Cardiff. She gained her black belt last summer and her success at the Welsh Championships led to her inclusion in the national team.

This will be the second time Mina has competed at a major tournament having previously represented her country in the World Championships in Tenerife last October.

Mina said: “I am so proud to have been chosen again to represent Wales and am really excited at the prospect of travelling to Russia and competing in the championships.”
