Lomond school sailingThe Gareloch was glassy calm but the midges in the car park were vicious, so no time for debate, we shot out to the boats as quickly as possible…

Hoisting the sails and casting off the mooring is good practice, as is re-mooring and putting the boats away! Some of the team went for practise paddling. Arrow crewed by Calum, Stewart, Rowan and Erik won the paddling prize making it all the way to the start. Nona with Lydia helming, Hugh and Virginia proved good paddlers too.

Grouse with Linda, Harald, Jasmine and Josie plus Jamie with Michael, Charlie, Ewan MacKay and Mrs Normand were both still on the mooring when the race officer fired three guns and cancelled the racing. Great haste was made to pack the boats away and get ashore, partly because low water springs was due at 8pm.

Back in the clubhouse we had drinks and a prize-giving in Sonda. Carolina took time out from partying too, and with the Headmaster’s assistance, joined us to say goodbye. The results were quite subjective given the variation in numbers of races competed in, crews, boats, helms, etc., etc. Grouse and Nona were definitely the boats to beat and Arrow was third. However, there were prizes for all and everyone’s sailing has improved.

We are very grateful to all the Sonar owners who have made the series possible for us. We have had eight great races (details and results are on the school website) and hope that people will continue to get more sailing in over the summer holidays. The sonar class are often looking for crews, so keep in touch if you want to sail.
