Lomond school sport childrenThe summer term draws to a close and all Lomond S1 – S6 pupils and staff travelled to Linwood Athletics Track to host their School Sports Day on Monday (24th June). The hurdles were set by Linwood staff and the day continued to shine for competitors.

Throughout the competition 9 records were broken and most pupils performed to the best of their abilities. The track events entertained the spectators and the field events tested the individual skills of the pupils. The day finished with the House Relays and all year groups worked extremely hard to gain maximum points for the Relay Cups. In the girls’ competition, Graham House managed to beat Bergius for the trophy and in the boys’ event it was Colquhoun House finishing first with Bergius a close second.

At the end of the events, Mr Dominic Fitzgerald from the P.E. department presented the prizes to the deserved winners. Mr Fitzgerald is leaving Lomond School after 9 years to take up a promoted post at Fulham Prep School in London. He will be sadly missed by the pupils and staff at the school but we wish him all the very best in his new job.

The Most Meritorious Girls’ award was presented to Wallis Jamieson (S1) who broke the 1500m record from 2003 and Emma Scott (S1) was runner up by breaking the Hurdles record from 2009.

In the Boys’ competition, the most Meritorious Award was presented to Tyler Thomas (S1) who broke 4 individual records. He is a very talented athlete and broke the Shot Putt record from 1983 with a throw of 11.09m and jumped 5metres in the Long Jump to break the record from 1993. He also broke the 400m and 800m records.

The runner up was Lewis Robinson (S1) who broke three records in the Hurdles, 200m and Triple Jump. Both pupils have performed exceptionally well throughout the season and it was a pleasure to watch them both perform to the highest of standards. The House Trophy was won by Graham House for achieving 699pts with Colquhoun a close second on 631pts and Bergius on 597 pts.

I would like to thank all the staff who officiated throughout the day and also our spectators and performers. The pupils returned to Helensburgh by coach following an extremely successful day on the track and field.
