In 2015 and 2016, Oundle School Sports and Uniform Shop Manager, Stuart Fox took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Longest Day Golf Challenge – a charity golf event with a difference. Instead of the usual corporate niceties and sedate pace with lunch for eighteen holes, the challenge was no fewer than seventy-two holes in a single day!

IMG_0507Starting at 4.30am on Sunday 25th June at Rushden Golf Club, Stuart is doing this event for a third year running. Stuart, his family and friends are attempting to play four rounds of golf – that’s seventy two holes and over 350 shots each in a single day.

Stuart, who for eight years has managed the Oundle School Sports and Uniform Shop on behalf of Schoolblazer Ltd, the School’s uniform and sportswear supplier, commented, “Two years ago was a challenge, but was easy compared to last year when it took three days to recover and included a physio session the day after the event. The attempt last year was particularly hard for me as two days prior I was in hospital having a skin cancer removed from the side of my face. Because of this I was unsure about trying for third year, but after the encouragement we received it just has to be done.

The aim of this golf day is to raise awareness and more importantly money for the work that Macmillan Cancer Support does.  Almost everyone will know of someone who has recovered from or has lost the fight with cancer; Macmillan help to support people who have cancer and their families. Stuart added, “In 2015 the team raised £1767.00 and we hope to raise even more for this wonderful charity.”
