golf Tiger WoodsPupils from Loretto School in Edinburgh got the chance to see one of the world’s most famous sporting trophies when The Open Championship's Claret Jug visited their school.

The iconic trophy was on a tour Scotland when it was taken to Loretto School ahead of the tournament in July.

The Championship, which is being held in Muirfield, East Lothian this year, will kick off with four practice days where visitors can see golfing legends before the competition starts.
And Loretto pupils were able to learn more about the contest and the trophy before anyone else.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto said the School was "honoured" to have been chosen to have a visit from the Claret Jug.He said: "The Claret Jug is an iconic trophy, arguably one of the most famous sporting trophies in the world. The Loretto pupils were very excited about it and they could not wait to see it properly."

"Loretto is home to our world-famous Golf Academy so it’s great that all the pupils can learn more about the sport and many have the chance to go and watch the competition later this month."

"I think there were some very jealous parents that their children got to see the trophy up close!"
