Loretto School host inaugural Girls Kiwk Cricket Festival

A first for girls Cricket in Scotland on Saturday 9th May saw the first ever Loretto School Kwik Cricket festival held for girls aged Under 12.

The festival was very successful with over 50 girls taking part and will now become an annual competition for Scottish schools.

Hosts, Loretto Junior School, Cargilfield School, Fettes Junior School, Cartlon Cricket Club, Dollar Academy and a Barbarians team and battled it out over five rounds to see who would come out on top.

Fettes Junior School were successful in winning all of their games and Loretto Junior School coming a very close second with only one run separating the top two teams.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto School, said, "It was a tremendously successful festival and all the girls who took part thoroughly enjoyed the action-packed event. We were blessed with beautiful weather and we have plans to extend this tournament next year, making it even bigger and better and an annual occasion."

Not to be outdone, Loretto Junior School's Year 6 team (Cassie Davidson-McQueen, Maddie Hillier, Izzie Lamotte, Ben Muncaster, Oliver Stevens, Kit McKenzie, Archie Anderson and Rory Simon-Smith) has qualified for the Cricket Scotland ASDA National Primary Schools Cup to be held in Perth on 18th June.

Loretto beat The Compass School, Haddington by 50 runs and therefore qualified as the East Lothian representatives.
