Loretto School – It’s all adding up for pupil Lawrence

Loretto School pupil Lawrence Bissell awarded three maths awardsFor 13 year old Loretto School pupil Lawrence Bissell from Inveresk, it was a matter of everything adding up to sumthing rather special when he was awarded not just one, but three Mathematics accolades in a national competition.

The Junior Mathematics Challenge attracts tens of thousands of entries from all over the United Kingdom. It is aimed at the top third of pupils in Year 8 or below in England and Wales, Year 9 or below in Northern Ireland and S2 or below in Scotland. The challenge involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and is sat in school under normal exam conditions.

Lawrence achieved a ‘Gold Award’ and certificates for the ‘Best in Year’ and ‘Best in School’.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto said, “Only about the top 10% of pupils are awarded the Gold certificate, so Lawrence has done exceptionally well to achieve this. We do congratulate him.”
