A Loretto School pupil has received a massive boost to his ambitions by landing a role in the Scottish Opera's new lavish and opulent production of The Magic Flute. Lawrence Bissell, 13 Inveresk in East Lothian, plays the 'Second Boy' in the opera. The production has received rave reviews and has been described as 'a beguiling mix of comedy, fantasy and pantomime'.

Talented Lawrence, a member the Loretto School Choir, Pipe Band, regular performer in school plays and a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland, auditioned earlier this year and was chosen for the part following demanding auditions and some stiff competition.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto School, said, "This is a wonderful opportunity for Lawrence and we do congratulate him. He is a talented young man-certainly one to watch in the future!"

2012 sees the Scottish Opera celebrate its 50th anniversary and The Magic Flute opened in Edinburgh on Friday, 16th November at the Festival Theatre, with the last performance on 24th November. A group from Loretto School will be rooting for their classmate when they watch The Magic Flute later this week.
