Celebrated Mathematician, Issac Barrow once described Mathematics as ‘the unshaken Foundation of Sciences, and the plentiful Fountain of Advantage to human affairs.’

If this is to believed then Maths wizards at Loretto School in Edinburgh are being well-prepared for their future studies as no longer than 9 of them achieved straight A* grades in their GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) after only one year.

The GCSE course normally lasts two years and only then a select few are awarded the exclusive A* grade. However, the 9 Loretto pupils are aged 14 and 15 are not resting on their laurels and have already embarked on the A Level Maths course.

The Loretto School Einsteins are Maria Alzueta, Alice Buchanan-Smith, Rory Henderson, Iona Kerr, Anna McLean, Anastasia Russell-Dalton, Christopher Sinclair, George Sutherland and Emma Thomson.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto School added, “This is a tremendous achievement or these pupils and I do congratulate both them and their teacher; it all adds up to an excellent result!”
