Loretto School pupils get to grips with technologyMOVE over Bill Gates – because there’s a new bunch of computer whizzkids in town.

Loretto School pupils, Lawrence Bissell (13 from Inveresk) and James Shaw (12 from Haddington), have been getting to grips with technology by creating their own smartphone app to assist fellow schoolmates with the conjugation of the perfect tense in French.

Lawrence and James have been busy designing and testing their app, named ‘Descendre’ and is loosely based on the popular app, ‘Down’. The interactive, colourful and compelling game currently has 10 levels and players must avoid. such distractions as a baguette, and Napoleon as they attempt to match an auxiliary verb with a past participle.

Lawrence and James have spent many hours fine tuning the app. Lawrence commented, “There have been a few early mornings and late nights, but we have come up with a fun way of learning the perfect tense.”

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto School, added, “Both James and Lawrence have shown real ingenuity. They have shown real expertise in cutting edge technology. I know that they both considered naming the app, ‘Angry Verbs’, but I think that ‘Descendre’ is far more appropriate!”
