On Monday 4th March, Loretto’s AS level Business Studies students set off bright and early from school for a trip to Loretto Napier visitEdinburgh Napier University, along with Mrs Monk and Mr Harbison.

The aim of the day was to get an insight into what it might be like to study Business at University, to see if it took our fancy.

We soon arrived and were all amazed at how modern the university looked from outside.

We walked into the building and in no time at all found ourselves engrossed in a first year Marketing lecture on ‘Pricing’ – a very important part of our Business Studies coursework.

We blended in well with the first year students, taking notes and listening to what the lecturer had to say.

Immediately following the lecture, we attended a tutorial which involved a lot of group discussion and participation. This gave us the opportunity to apply what we had learned from the lecture to a topical case study.

We were then joined by Katya, a Swedish second year student who talked to us about general University life at Napier. She told us about the various activities available at the University, accommodation and most importantly… nightlife!

However, it was interesting to hear that what attracted her most to studying Business at Napier was the fact that Napier can arrange for students to work abroad in their third year and get some very useful work experience for up to 48 weeks.

Our visit ended with a tour around the University, being shown the very impressive libraries, café’s, computer rooms and lecture halls, before having lunch and returning back to school just in time for the last two lessons – much to our delight!

Overall, our day visiting Edinburgh Napier was a success and gave us a real insight in what University life is all about.
