Loretto NetballCELEBRATING sporting achievement at Loretto School in Edinburgh is quite the norm, but for two pupils at Loretto School their recent Netball endeavours have been something to remember. Both were selected to represent the Dandylions Netball team.

12 year old Netball aces, Lucy Buchanan-Smith (from Balerno, Midlothian) and Matilda Smaill (12 from Borthwick, Midlothian) flew the flag for the prestigious Dandylions – the representative team from the East of Scotland. The Dandylions team, captained by Lucy, beat the West of Scotland Preparatory School, known as the WOSPS 18-17.

In another coup for Loretto, 12 year olds Callum Simon-Smith, James Shaw, Chris Edwardson, Finlay Broomfield have been selected to represent the East of Scotland Rugby Team, also known as the Dandylions.

Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto, commented, “This achievement is not to be underestimated. It is a real feather in any young person’s hat to be selected for the Dandylions. In essence, this team is made up of the cream of young sporting talent. The future of sport in Scotland is reliant on the youngsters being spotted and nurtured from and early age.”
