Malvern St James are record breakers at County Championships

Three girls from Malvern St James Girls’ School have exceeded expectations at the Hereford and Worcester County Malvern St James Athletics Championships, including successfully smashing a longstanding County record.

Fifteen girls from MSJ were picked to represent Malvern District at the County competition which took place at the Nunnery Wood Sports Complex in Worcester on Saturday 8 June.

Leading her fellow competitors from the start, MSJ’s Hannah Tapley (Year 9) won the Junior Girls' High Jump, beating both the Championship and County records with a jump of 1.6 metres.

Natalie White (Year 11) demonstrated her expert technique in the Inter Girls Javelin competition and came first with a winning distance of 29.4 metres.

Saska Ingham (Year 13) excelled in two competitions at the County event.

Achieving a personal best, she finished first in the Senior Girls Long Jump with jump of 4.81 metres and won the Senior Girls 400m in a remarkable time of 64.4secs.

Mrs Patricia Woodhouse, Headmistress, Malvern St James Girls’ School commented: “The enthusiasm shown by all the MSJ girls taking part in this year’s County Championships was outstanding. Huge congratulations to our three winners, Hannah, Natalie and Saska!”

Other MSJ successes at the County Championships included second place for Sarah Ellis (Year 10) in the Inter Girls 1500m and third place for Hannah Nolan (Year 9) in both the Shot Putt and Discus in Junior Girls category.

Building on their success in the County competition MSJ girls Hannah Tapley, Natalie White and Sarah Ellis have also been selected to compete in the ‘Mason Trophy’ competition at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on 15 June.
