Malvern St James students celebrating University offersRosie Baker, Jess Wright, Daisy Zhang and Zoe Xu are celebrating the offer of highly sought after places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Head Girl, Rosie Baker, plans to study Geography at Cambridge after completing A levels in Chemistry, Geography and Maths, plus AS Biology. Rosie founded the MSJ Geog Soc, along with joint Head Girl Jess Wright, and gained a place on the highly prestigious British Schools Expedition to the Arctic last summer. Rosie said “I’m really thrilled to feel my hard work and preparation paying off. The prospect of studying Geography, a subject I feel passionate about, in such a motivated environment is very exciting and has really given me something to work towards in my last few months at school”.

Joint Head Girl, Jess Wright, another keen Geographer, plans to study at Oxford. Her A Level subjects are Maths, Geography and English Literature plus an AS level in Physics. Jess plays for the first team in several school sports and is currently working towards Grade 8 on the flute.

Daisy Zhang joined MSJ in the Lower Sixth from Zhejiang Province in China. She plans to study Engineering at Cambridge after completing A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics, plus an AS level in Economics. Daisy has competed in many science competitions, achieving a Gold Certificate in the Senior Mathematical Challenge and a Distinction in the British Mathematical Olympiad. Further recognition came with a Silver Medal in the Physics Olympiad and achieving a record result for MSJ in the Chemistry Olympiad. Daisy said “As an international student, I really appreciate the help that I was given by the teachers at MSJ. I am enjoying studying maths and sciences and therefore I chose to do an Engineering degree.”

Finally, Zoe Xu, who left MSJ last summer, has received an offer to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge.

Headmistress, Mrs Woodhouse, commented: “I am thrilled with the girls’ Oxbridge successes this year, which are also a great tribute to our dedicated and dynamic Science and Geography departments here. In an ever-increasingly competitive market, this is a brilliant achievement and continues to position MSJ as an outstanding School for Girls”.
