Malvern St James Girls’ School’s U11s football team have retained their district title.

Last year, the school won the tournament without conceding a goal and repeated that feat with group wins against Malvern Wyche (3-0); Eldersfield ‘A’ (1-0); Kempsey (3-0); and Broadheath (3-0).

The team faced Northleigh in the semi-final but the opposition keeper kept them at bay and forced a penalty shootout which they won 2-1.

The final against Kempsey followed a similar pattern to the semi-final, with Malvern St James creating many chances but finding themselves up against a goalkeeper in fine form. The match was again decided by a penalty shootout, with the team’s keeper saving two and the MSJ captain converting to secure the win. penalties.

Ian Fry, the team’s coach, commented: “Our girls played fantastically well in the group stages. The majority of the team are all new to playing football and I couldn’t be more proud of the way they played today. We are delighted to be district champions for the second successive year and to again have the opportunity to represent our district at the county tournament in the New Year.”
