Despite the somewhat gloomy forecast in the national media this week about A Levels, over 20% of students are celebrating straight A* – A grades with 1 student securing A* in all 5 of her A Level subjects. 81% of all grades awarded were A* – B with an overall pass rate of 99%. 73% of students taking Maths gained A* – A. The Food Technology and Latin departments enjoyed 100% A* – A grades, with Year 13 PE BTech Group scoring a clean 100% sweep of A* Distinctions. The AS results were equally impressive with a record 86% achieving A* – C.

Deputy Head Girl Elizabeth Rees from Malvern is looking forward to reading History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art; world-renowned and accepting only 60 students each year, her success marks a first in the history of Malvern St James. Her original goal had been to read Classics at Oxford. The History of Art module she chose to study from within the MSJ Sixth Form Educational Enrichment Programme inspired her to raise her game and drive forward a new passion and ambition.

Elizabeth said, “I am really excited about studying at The Courtauld and living on the Strand. It is thrilling to be moving on to something new.”

Elizabeth’s father John Rees said, “The school has been fantastic, Elizabeth has excelled ever since joining. Malvern St James teaches girls to take responsibility, not just acquire knowledge and Elizabeth has really grown as a person in her own right.”

Headmistress, Mrs Patricia Woodhouse said, “We are immensely proud of all our girls and all they have achieved. We wish them every success in all that lies ahead.

“I am delighted that Malvern St James girls are becoming increasingly engaged with non-traditional sectors which are crying out for females but failing to attract them in significant numbers. I applaud these students for making modern forward-thinking choices, including courses related to increasing globalisation and environmental responsibility.

“Today also celebrates the dedicated first class teaching and facilities which these young women have enjoyed here. Their remarkable achievements are testament to the extraordinary enrichment opportunities and tailored learning environment MSJ offers, highlighted most recently by the launch of our new Student Aspiration Programme.”
