Malvern St James Girls’ School’s U11s football team have been crowned English Schools Football Association U11s Girls’ County Champions.

The team overcame cold and wet conditions to win the tournament held at South Bromsgrove High School and competed against fellow Worcestershire schools Claines Primary, Parkside Middle, Sutton Park Primary and Walkwood Middle.

Malvern St James qualified for the tournament by winning their district competition without conceding a goal or losing a game. This feat was repeated and saw them crowned county champions, with the team now going on to represent Worcestershire at the ESFA Midlands Regional Finals in April at Nottingham University’s Riverside sports complex.

Ian Fry, prep teacher and head of football at Malvern St James, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our girls. They have worked so hard and thoroughly deserved their success at the district competition. The quality of the opposition was obviously higher at the county event, but the girls again deservedly came out on top.

“To represent Worcestershire at the Midlands Regional Finals is a huge honour and will be a fantastic challenge for us and a great experience for the girls. The progress the girls have made since the beginning of the year has been phenomenal. There is certainly work to be done on improving further before the regional competition, but I know the girls will be up for the challenge. I could not be more proud of all my team.”
