Malvern_St_James_Lucy_GolfLucy Walton, 13, a student at Malvern St James Girls’ School and one of the county’s leading young golfers, is back in the swing of success following her injury at the end of July.

During a busy month of competitions in August Lucy excelled in a number of national championships including the English National Under 15 Championships held in Devon where she finished 11th out of 90 competitors.  This was an excellent result as she still has another year in this age group.

Lucy also played a great qualifying round in the St Andrews Junior Ladies’ Open for players under the age of 23, only knocked out by the eventual winner.  She finished second in the Loretto School Scottish Girls U14 Open Stroke-Play Championships, held in Inverness at the Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club. Lucy carded a 79 and 78 to tie for second place, only three shots off the leader.

Finally, rounding off a superb summer, Lucy was back to her best, winning the Under 15 Midlands South Championships held at The Worcestershire Golf Club in August.  She was also awarded Junior Female Personality of the Year at the Malvern Hills District Sports awards held in July.

We are so proud of Lucy’s golfing supremacy and achievements,” said Patricia Woodhouse, Headmistress, Malvern St James Girls’ School. “This is a passion we have been delighted to support Lucy in over the last five years.  Her dedication and hard work are inspiring and her recent award confirms her standing as one of the District’s most popular sportswomen and an outstanding role model.  This is another example of MSJ empowering young women to exceed boundaries and expectations beyond the curriculum, and excel in all areas of life
