The beautiful Creative Connections exhibition at the Wing Gallery, Wadhurst, at the end of March brought together the Art and Ceramics from Mayfield’s current pupils, old girls and teaching staff – away from the School premises for the first time.
Visitors to the exhibition were able to enjoy and marvel at the impressive combination of technical skill and imagination on display.
At Mayfield, as well as achieving outstanding academic results, girls are encouraged to think creatively across all subjects. Every girl has the chance to develop a solid grounding in a range of creative skills which, with expert guidance from passionate teachers, gives her the confidence to establish her own individual style and personal response. As a result Mayfield has a richly-deserved reputation for artistic achievement.
In the celebrated Ceramics Department girls who are new to Ceramics soon grow in confidence and ambition. They learn how to craft a piece and produce their own breath-taking creations.
Likewise, the Art Department enables girls to discover and express their creative impulses across a wide range of styles and media.
Amongst those whose work was on display at the gallery was Old Cornelian, Jenna Gearing. Jenna recently completed a commission for the Fleet Air Museum of Captain Eric “Winkle” Brown, which was unveiled on her 21st Birthday at the beginning of March.
Ceramic Teacher, Mrs McFadyean, said: “The exhibition at the Wing gallery has enabled the Mayfield School Ceramics and Art departments to be fully appreciated by the General public with the work on display, for sale. The creative talents of the girls through the generations can be seen as an added advantage to their other qualifications to accompany them through their various careers. Several of our pupils have successfully made a career out of their creative talents.”
