Joshua Li, aged 17 won the silver medal in the Boys Under 20 Foil for 2011, while Benedikt Gers, aged 17 and Oliver Slater, aged 18, came away with bronze medals.

Year 11 pupil, Nina Zimmerman, aged 16, claimed a third bronze for the Mount in the Girls U17 Foil. This follows the other bronze medal she won in the 2010 Yorkshire Youth Championships.

Mr Jenkins, Mount fencing assistant, said: "Every member of the squad gave a one hundred per cent performance, and congratulations must go to our coach Mr Adam Blight, for making the fencers fighting fit. They faced some tough competition but did the school proud – it was an excellent set of results."

There were 80 students competing in the competition from across the UK in categories including Epee, Foil and Sabre fencing.

The Mount will be returning to Stonyhurst for the Lancashire Schools Competition in May, where after intense training and dedication, they aim to bring home the gold.
