A level examination results day at Merchiston saw the usual flurry of activity in School as many of last year's Upper Sixth leavers came back to open their results envelopes.

96% pass rate at A*- C grades

  • 4 pupils accepted at Oxbridge

We are pleased with our Upper Sixth pupils' performance in A level examinations this summer: the A*-C grade pass-rate was at 96% for the second year running-the School's best-ever tally at these grades. This year was the third in which exam boards awarded the highly prestigious A* grade to candidates scoring over 90% in their final-year units; Merchiston is pleased to report a 21% A* grade performance this summer.

Four Merchiston pupils have secured places at Cambridge University for next academic year to read Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Andrew Hunter, Headmaster comments,

“This is always a very important part of the academic year. For some boys, it is the culmination of a 10 year journey at Merchiston. Others have had shorter journeys. I am delighted with the quality of the A level results. They speak volumes for the staff and how ‘the boys are inspired to aspire to do the best they can possibly do’. The combination of the natural brightness of many of these boys, their own hard work, and the attention, care and professionalism from staff has resulted in another set of superb results.”
