Mechiston castle School SportMerchiston Golf Academy new pupil, Murray Naysmith (16), handicap +2, has made a superb start to his time at Merchiston.

Winning the Paul Lawrie Junior Jug at the weekend, Naysmith has also been selected to represent the Scotland Schoolboys` U18 team against England. Director of Golf, Alan Murdoch, is delighted to be starting a new term as the number one school in Scotland according to the Independent Schools’ Golf Association school rankings for 2012/13.

“Murray has started extremely well as a new pupil at Merchiston and we hope this success continues. This year we have 17 boys in the Academy and I am really looking forward to working with all the pupils. It is important we develop Scottish talent, however, it is also good to have some international boys too. This year we have boys from three different continents – Europe , Asia and Africa . We have a busy schedule starting next week with a school fixture against Loretto played at Kings Acre, where the Golf Academy is based.”

The Edinburgh based school is also listed as number 4 in the UK, which is particularly impressive, given that the Golf Academy at Merchiston only launched in 2011.
