The House offers 126 en-suite bedrooms made up of single and double rooms, with stunning views of Edinburgh and Fife. There are modern spacious kitchens, a gym and large, open-plan social spaces with floor-to-ceiling glass walls that create a feeling of space and light.

The School is the only boys’ independent boarding school in Scotland, and this year has been celebrating its 175th anniversary of educating, inspiring and developing pupils both in and out of the classroom. The new Sixth Form House will offer an exceptionally high standard of boarding accommodation.

Headmaster Andrew Hunter commented: ‘At Merchiston, we aim to be as flexible as possible to suit parents’ work and social arrangements. The flexibility in our boarding arrangements appeals to a wide range of families. The new Sixth Form House will offer the boys enhanced independence in separate en-suite bedrooms, along with the added benefits of living in a brand new modern House.’

The current Sixth Form boys are eagerly awaiting the move to the new House; one commented: ‘The accommodation will be more like halls, preparing us for university life, and there are fantastic views across Edinburgh.’
