Merchiston Golf awards team winnersMerchiston Golf Academy, can now claim 3 major tournament victories at 3 different age groups (U-13s, U-15s and U18s). A fantastic achievement in such a short period of time.

Under 18 team winners nett in the ISGA Scottish Open

Individual winner ISGA Scottish Open yesterday, at Haddington Golf Club, the U-13s team of Jamie Boyd, Kayal Sui and Rory Thain claimed the school hatrick; winning the Loretto Junior Golf Championship and taking home the prestigious Simmers Cup.

With over 100 boys and girls playing from schools across Scotland, the competition was strong. Director of Golf, Alan Murdoch said,

“It was a great day to see our youngsters being presented the Cup by Mr Simmers himself, it just goes to show what we are doing with golf is working, right through the whole school. I am delighted with the boys commitment, they have all been a real credit to the school.”

Individually, the young exuberant Rory Thain, aged 12, had an excellent gross score of 86, taking 1st place in the individual nett stableford competition with 44 points.

The ever consistent Thain produced some shots of the highest quality with two equal halves of 43 strokes, remarkable scoring, considering the scottish winter weather that was played in.

Merchiston GolfIn the U-15s age group a commendable 3rd place by Andrew White, Max Brueck, Ronan Dowds and Charlie Yuille. Losing out by 1 shot for 2nd place to Robert Gordons College.

Individually, White scored 36 stableford points, Dowds 35 points and a fine effort by Yuille who finished with a nett 69 and 38 stableford points. A terrific performance by all in this age group.

Not to be out down, in the U-11s category young Alexander Fraser competed admirably, scoring 76 shots over 14 holes. A young talented golfer who played with confidence and maturity. His course management was very impressive to watch.
