Midlands Finals Victory for Under 16s Boys’ Hockey Team

trent College Midlands Hockey ChampionsThe U 16s Boys’ Hockey Team won the Midlands Finals last week after a decisive victory over Repton by six goals to nil in the final.

The tournament which was played at Cannock Hockey Club saw some great play by the team. In the first round they beat Bablake School 3-0 and then a Smith brace contributed to a 3-1 victory over Repton. A Proctor hat –trick sealed a 3-2 success against Bromsgrove School.

In the semi-final, the team prevailed in a very difficult encounter with Oundle School, stealing it by a goal to nil. However, the team is indebted to Oliver Mantle who saved a penalty, the turning point in a tricky match that ensured them a place in the final and subsequent victory.

The National Finals will take place at the same venue at the beginning of May and Head of Hockey Mr Wood is hopeful the team will perform well:

“The team played some terrific hockey to win the Midlands final. Although we know that the competition will be tough, I believe we have the power and experience in the squad to go one better than last season.”
