Millfield Prep pupils took part in a number of events to bring attention to the issues of bullying for National Anti Bullying week.
Millfield Prep anti-bullying wristbands were sold for pupils to their show support for the campaign, with funds raised going to CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
The English Department held a creative writing competition for Years 6, 7 and 8 around the theme of bullying. Entries will be judged after the two week campaign with the winners from each year group receiving a prize.
Pupil Peer Supporters introduced themselves to the school last week; Chris Seal, Deputy Head (Housing) from Millfield Senior School presented an assembly to Years 7 and 8; the school enjoyed a thought-provoking play delivered by an external drama company; and Year 6 will took part in an anti-bullying workshop.
“This is an important event for the school and it has done a lot to raise awareness of the issues surrounding bullying,”
said Mrs Tracey Hazell, Deputy Head at Millfield Prep.
“Our pupils have really taken on board the anti-bullying messages. They are producing some excellent writing for our competition and are showing their support by wearing their wrist bands this week.”
This thoughtful and supportive poem was penned by Eleanor Lloyd for the Peer Supporters’ assembly.
Josephine got bullied
The bullies pulled her hair
They even sniggered at her clothes
They were richer than her
She felt lonely and upset
She thought nobody cared
When one day
Up came a Peer Supporter who said
“Hey, there! We’ve heard you’ve had some trouble
As children sometimes do
The bullies being nasty – it is unfair on you
Now if you have a problem
Then come and speak to us
We know what’s best to help you
And talking always does!”
The caring Peer Supporter
She helped poor Josephine
The bullies got a talking to
Since then, their nastiness never seen!
So, if you are experiencing repeated meanness too
We’ll sort you out without a doubt,
We’d love to help you too!
