Records tumbled at Monkton Senior School today with the publication of GCSE results. This year’s proportion of grades at A* is over 40% – a record; the percentage of grades at A* and A is over 70% – a record; the proportion of grades at A*, A or B is over 90% – a record. 98.8% of all our GCSE grades this year are A*-C and all Y11 students gained at least 5 grades at A*-C including Maths and English.
In the context of such outstanding results, it is hard to pick particular hotspots, but in Maths more than half the candidates gained an A*, and in English Language results were more than 80% A*/A.
Three pupils gained a clean sweep of A* grades in 11 subjects, William Backhouse, Caitlin Brickley, and Tess Hovil. 21 out of 69 pupils gained more A* grades than any other,15 out of 69 gained all A* and A grades, 53 out of 69 pupils gained at least one A* grade.

We expected this year group to challenge the School’s record performance at GCSE, but they haven’t just broken our school records – they’ve smashed them!”
