A new facility brings a revitalised vision for Music at Monkton

Music plays a very significant role in the development of children and young people and has always been an important part in the life of Monkton Combe School. It helps to develop life-long skills which provide immeasurable benefits not only for the individual but for the community and the wider-world. From the early days of the existing Music School opened by Sir Adrian Boult in 1959 to the present day, Monkton has been blessed with a steady stream of talented pupils.

Building work is now underway for a new Music School which provides an exciting and revitalised vision for music. The building project is part of a new phase of development which can only be described as transformational in terms of its potential to enhance academic performance and to provide state-of-the-art facilities. This project follows the completion of a £4.1m Maths & Science Centre which is proving to be an outstanding facility for pupils and staff.

An extensive range of new resources will be provided as a result of the extension, refurbishment and modernisation of the existing building. The new Music School will be ready for use by pupils in early 2012 and will include an 80 seat rehearsal hall with digital recording facilities, 12 instrumental teaching and practice rooms and air-conditioned percussion, rock and recording studios.

Current Director of Music, George Bevan, aims to develop long-term partnerships with prep schools, universities and music colleges, as well as with individual musicians and ensembles. This will ensure that we not only attract promising musicians to Monkton but are also able to develop their skills to the full and give them the widest possible opportunities to explore their individual musical needs.
