Monkton Prep Pupils Swim to Success and are Ranked Fifth in the Country

Monkton Prep School Swimming Team Essa Finals June 2014A team of swimmers from Monkton Prep School swam to success in June when they competed at the ESSA primary schools national finals in Sheffield.

After qualifying earlier in the year for the finals in both the front crawl and the medley relay races the teams were excited to compete at a national level. The pupils did extremely well, coming in second place in the B final medley and in first place in the B final Freestyle race; placing Monkton Prep fifth in the country.

This amazing achievement follows a year of training and a record year of swimming championship wins around the UK gaining the school recognition as one of the best schools for swimming in the UK. Their success is down to a combination of the hard work and dedication from the pupils as well as the expert support and coaching from their teacher Rachel Martindale and Dan Hester, a former Olympic swimmer who coaches the pupils at the school.

Headmaster at Monkton Prep Mr Andrew Marshall-Taylor commented ‘Once again this team of talented and hardworking pupils have chalked up an impressive win. I am extremely proud of their achievements and know that their success is well-deserved.  Thanks also needs to go to the coaches who put such a lot of work in to the continual improvement of the swimmers. I look forward to seeing how these boys develop and certainly hope that they continue to achieve at a national level in the future.’
