A team from Monmouth School Boys’ Prep has reached the final of the National Inter-school Science Quiz Championship for the second year in a row.

Srinivas Rengarajan captained the team that also included Ojas Shanbhag, Cameron Hughes and Hugh Major as they scored an impressive total of 2,105 points.

The Monmouth boys have high hopes of winning the final at Oxford University’s Museum of National History later this month, after narrowly finishing second by 35 points last year.

The school hosted the semi-final at the Hitchcock Pavilion that included Bristol’s Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital, Lawn Primary School, Millfield Preparatory School, Redmaids High Junior School, Taunton’s Queen’s College Junior School, The Cathedral School in Llandaff and Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Castellau from Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Srinivas said: “It feels really exciting to have reached the final and hopefully we will go one better than last year. This is a very proud moment for me and the other boys in the team.”

Mr Shaw, prep headteacher, said: “Everyone in the Monmouth team did incredibly well and all the pupils who competed in the regional final should be very proud of their achievements.”
