A team from both Monmouth School for Boys and Girls has won the annual Wales Cadet Indoor Climbing Championships.

The Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools’ Combined Cadet Force also clinched three other titles at Boulders Climbing Centre in Cardiff.

Bob Bloomfield, Harry Hughes, Yaroslav Ivanov and Georgina Houghton formed the senior team, with William Salter, Charlie Smith, Finlay Town and Edward Baker making up the junior team.

Monmouth, led by the fastest competitor in Edward Baker, became team champions and won both the team event and speed climbing team title, with Charlie Smith winning the individual junior boys’ crown. Harry Hughes also impressed and finished as runner-up in the senior competition, with Georgina Houghton achieving third spot in the female section.

Teacher Matt Peake said: “The students achieved an amazing haul of trophies and medals which was remarkable because some of them had only had two previous sessions on a climbing wall.”
