Reading from The Book of Common Prayer, over 30 Moretonians took to the podium in the annual Sarah Parkes Competition. The competition, created by Dr Giles Parkes in memory of his late daughter Sarah, was once again judged by Colonel Frank Hewitt, chairman of the Lichfield Diocese Prayer Book Society and Sarah’s sister Celia Jenkins, former High Sheriff of Clwyd.

This year’s Junior winner was Lucy Allinson (Year 10 from Nantwich) with runner up Eliza Kiel (Year 10 from Oswestry). Senior winner was Mary Richardson (Year 13 from Ellesmere), with runner up Ruth Jefferis (Year 12 from Oswestry).

Head of Spoken English, Merriel Halsall Williams commented: “The quality of the speakers was excellent, there were entries from all year groups in school.”
