After just five years of lessons, Moreton Hall student Jemima Pickersgill (15) is not only Grade 8 on the clarinet but also came an impressive 3rd in the prestigious Alderley Edge Festival of Music and Drama and was deemed ‘outstanding’ by the judges.

Performing in the Recital Class, Jemima was competing against many students who were significantly older than herself.

“The competition was incredibly high,” explains Jemima, who trains at the Royal National College of Music every week.  “I was delighted with coming third, with the ‘outstanding’ award and with my score of 90%.  The judge said he was very impressed and that these were the first ‘outstanding’ marks he had awarded in the Festival.”

Jemima is also working towards Grade 8 on the piano and plays the bass clarinet.  Last weekend she  was invited to play the bass clarinet in the esteemed RNCM concert which features music created by the young composers of the college.
